Off the cuff and on the go
I don’t really give a flying toss about who governs in Italy. I am sure that the long list of great things for which this beautiful country is known will outlast any Italian government. But I do care about what European democracy looks like. It is a common heritage that has cost millions of lives, lest we forget.
Double-parked delivery vans simply make my blood boil. It’s a big middle finger to the rest of us whose lives, time and appointments are deemed less important that the delivery of goods to the Carrefour supermarket or whatever outlet it is.
Stephen Hawking was certainly never aware, but the day I saw him, in Cambridge, I understood something: that in your mind you can roam all the way to the edge of the universe, travel right down to the first few milliseconds of the big bang and come back to make a difference in the here and now.
